Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota

Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, the Spaceport of India, is responsible for providing Launch Base Infrastructure for the Indian Space Programme. It has two launch pads from where the rocket launching operations of PSLV and GSLV are carried out. This state of the art facility is maintained by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and is the main base for India’s space flight programs. The space station is open to visitors but the facility tour is limited to assembly buildings, launch pads, launch pedestals, mission control and launch control centers (MCC and LCC) and the space museum. This is worth the visit to admire and appreciate the efforts made by India in the space research.

Krishnapatnam Port

Krishnapatnam is a major port and market center. Situated at a distance of 24 km from Nellore City, it remains one of the very few ports in the world which can handle giant ships with load capacities of 1,50,000 tonnes. Krishnapatnam port is being upgraded into India’s biggest privately owned world-class port. It is being upgraded by the Navayuga Company. Iron ore and granite is being exported from this port to other countries like China. The coal from here is supplied to the Thermal Power Plant which is one of the four Ultra Mega Power Projects in India.

Somasila Dam

The Somasila Dam is a dam constructed across the Penna River near Somasila, village of Ananthasagaram Mandal. The reservoir can get water by gravity from the Srisailam reservoir located in Krishna basin. It is the biggest storage reservoir in Penna River basin and can store all the inflows from its catchment area in a normal year. The water from the dam is used for domestic as well as agricultural purposes. The dam is surrounded by Eastern Ghats that looks beautiful with rich natural flora and fauna. It is now a popular eco-tourism spot with visitors from all the corners of India.
