a) PROFILE

Nellore City is historically and culturally named as Vikrama Simhapuri. In this city we find great cultural heritage. The great personalities of Literature, Music, Dance and Other Fine Arts were flourished since more than 100 years.

In this cultural city Department of Culture is running a Govt. School of Music and Dance, more than 35 years as a symbol of great culture and tradition. This institute reflects the great art of Music and Dance among the public in the city.

Initially this Music and Dance Institution was established in ‘Kota’ village, Nellore District by the great political leader late Sri Nallapareddy Srinivasulu Redy garu around 1976. So many students joined and there was a very good response and quick development. Very soon it became good cultural institution.

Later this Music and Dance Instituted was shifted to Nellore Headquarters (City) in the year 1990 when Sri Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy garu was the Chief Minister. It was the dream of late Dr. Bezawada Gopala Reddy garu to bring this Music and Dance School to the city (Headquarters) with the idea of inculcating great interest and cultural taste among the students and public. He succeeded in his attempt.

For the last 35 years this Govt. School of Music and Dance has been flourishing with more than 500 students every years in all discipline like Vocal, Veena, Violin, Bharatanatyam, Nadaswaram, Dolu and Mridangam. Even today great teaching staff is working in this institution.

c) SCHEMES / ACTIVITIES/ ACTION PLAN

Even today great teaching staff is working in this institution. Those who take training here will appear for the Telugu University Examinations of Certificate and Diploma and successfully came over for the last 35 years. So many students of this institution are professional artists in all fields.

Many cultural functions like ‘Jayanthis’ & ‘Vardhantis’ of great personalities of Music and Dance fields are used to conduct by the School every year regularly.

  2. Karteeka Deeposthavam – Weekly Monday programmes of Music and Dance by the Teachers and Students.
  3. Birth Centenary Celebration of ‘Bharata Ratna’ Dr.M.S. Subbu Lakshmi garu
  4. Dance Festivals in different periods of great ‘Natyacharyaas’
  5. “Harikatha Gaana Saptaahams” in connection of Birth Centenary of ‘Harikatha Pitamah” Sri Aadibhatla Narayana Das garu (ever year)
  6. Some more cultural events related to the situations.

Like this as cultural and traditional symbol Govt. School of Music and Dance, Nellore stands forever with the blessings of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and cultured public of Nellore.
