AP STARS

a) DEPARTMENT PROFILE :

Role and functionality of the Department: A.P. STARS is under the control of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services in Andhra Pradesh, which is a progressive department. The Department is functioning under the Administrative Control of Home Department. The Office of the A.P. STARS, Nellore is entrusted with the responsibility to conduct various types of trainings to Prison Personnel viz., Induction Training for Warders, Refresher Training, In-service Training, Orientation Course Training etc. This Institution is also providing training to the Officers and Staff in Prisons Department periodically in implementation of Government projects like e-Office, PMIS, Health Programs, Inmate reformation programmes and security programmes.

After Bifurcation from   State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA), Hyderabad 
 
The Government in their orders GO Ms. No. 121 Home (legal-II) Dept. Dated 25-7-2014 the State Level Training Institute  of Andhra Pradesh to exclude SICA, Hyderabad and temporarily established at Old Central Jail, Complex Nellore schedule 10 of Andhra Pradesh Re-Organization Act 2014. After this,  institute called as the Prison  Academy of  Andhra Pradesh. 
Vide GO Ms. No. 5 Home (Legal-II) Dept. Dated 19-1-2016 ordered that the State level training Institute, Nellore called as ANDHRA PRADESH STATE TRAINING ACADEMY FOR REFORMATION SERVICES (AP STARS).
  • The mission  of the Institute is build professional excellence and competence among all cadres of the department through training.
  • To improves the knowledge, skills and mold the attitude of the employees to the required levels and the capacity building with in the organization.
  •  And promotes other management skills besides developing good organizational culture in the department.
  •  Correctional personnel shall be given special training in 
1. Drill (with Arms and without Arms)
2. Physical Training 
3. UAC (Unarmed Combat Course)
4. Mob  Dispersal
5. Baton Drill
6. Electronic Gadget i.e. DFMD, HMD
7. Communication (Walky –Talky)
8. Yoga
9. Art of living
10. Fire Fighting etc.,
 
To enable them to restrain aggressive prisoners by the means prescribed in the Rules and Regulations.

  •  Through such knowledge, the right person can be 
Entrusted with the right job, which will ultimately lead to proper utilization of staff talents.

1. Mission:

Andhra Pradesh Prisons and Correctional Services Department confines, manages and provides a safe, secure and humane environment to prisoners both under trial and convicted, by utilizing a trained professional Prison Force and providing them opportunities for re-integration in society as responsible and productive citizens and thus serve and protect the society.

2. Vision:

Our vision is to provide a service of which the public can be proud and which will be regarded as a standard of excellence in the country.

3. Aims and Objectives:

  •  Orientation course for Deputy Jailors
  • Orientation course for Deputy Superintendent of Jails.
  • To promote continuation learning recap of the knowledge, skills to its personal and Keep informed of the latest developments to be in tool with times.
  •  The AP State Training Academy for Reformation Services endeavourers to repair personnel of the Department for future challenges.

  • Till today 21 Refresher training courses completed to all Prison personnel (Guarding Staff, Executive Officers and Ministerial Staff) during this financial year 2022-2023
