There are many ancient temples in Nellore town and district. One of them is the Sri Venugopalan Swamy Temple located in the local Moolapet. There is no information available about when it was built. According to the information available, this temple was built by the famous Sheshul Ghantabattula Papi Reddy in 1883.
Over time, many devotees have made special efforts for the development of the temple. The famous Moolasthaneswara Swamy temple in Moolapet is very close to the Swamy temple.
At the beginning of the spacious courtyard, a beautiful image of Sri Venugopalan Swamy along with Thirunama and Shankhu Chakra is placed on the welcome door. The newly built Anjana Sutuni Temple is opposite the main temple.
The forms of Moolavirattu are on the mandapam between the two. The special thing to mention in this temple is the beautiful sculptures arranged on all sides, beautiful verses and verses. The feeling of seeing a colorful and wonderful living picture moves in the minds when you look at this temple!! A Telugu inscription related to the construction of the temple is opposite the flagpole. But it has been worn out and is no longer readable.

The walls are painted with conch and chakras in eye-catching colors. In the sanctum, Sri Venugopala Swamy is seen wearing beautiful flowers and gold ornaments. On one side, Sri Lakshmi Ammavaru and on the other side, Sri Goda Devi (Andal) are seated.
Every day, many types of abhishekams, decorations and archanas are performed. Special pujas are performed on Ekadashi and Ashtami days. Many festivals associated with the incarnations of Vishnu such as Sri Krishnashtami, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Sri Rama Navami, Sri Narasimha Jayanti are celebrated with great pomp and show in the presence of a large number of devotees. During the festivals of Ugadi, Vinayaka Chavithi and Diwali, devotees throng Sri Venugopal Swamy in large numbers. There is a separate temple for Sri Narasimha Swamy in the premises.
A beautiful Ashtalakshmi temple has been newly constructed outside the premises opposite the welcome door.
Sri Venugopal Swamy at Moolapet is one of the must-visit places in Nellore town.
