ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

DEPARTMENT PROFILE :

In SPS Nellore District at present Veterinary Health cover is provided by 108 field Veterinary Institutions comprising of 1 Veterinary Poly Clinic at District level manned by Deputy Directors as referral District hospitals providing specialized services in Gynecology, Surgery and Medicine, 19 Taluk level Veterinary Hospitals manned by Assistant Directors, at Mandal level 89 Veterinary Dispensaries manned by Veterinary Assistant Surgeons, at Village level 69 Rural Livestock Units, manned by Para Vets and 394 Rythu Seva Kendralu manned by Animal Husbandry Assistants are functioning.
There is one Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratories are functioning, at district headquarters with facilities for disease investigation, quick diagnosis and for mapping out diseases to render timely and effective control measures.It is the district referral laboratory for effective diagnosis and vaccine distribution work,And 7 Constituency level Animal Disease Diagnostic laboratories (CADDLs).
Animal Husbandry activities were reoriented towards increased production of livestock products like Milk, Meat and Eggs, besides providing adequate health care and control of diseases aiming to improve the economy of rural poor through livestock rearing. With its livestock resources and gradual enlightment of the farmers along with dedicated and sustained efforts of the Department over the years have elevated the SPSR District to a prominent position in the State of Andhra Pradesh in the Livestock Sector.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT :

•  Providing curative and preventive health care to Livestock through constant vigil on disease out breaks, rendering preventive vaccinations, deworming and treatment of ailing animals.
• Improving the production potential by way of breed up-gradation in Cattle and Buffaloes through Artificial Insemination.
•  Augmenting fodder production to meet the nutritional requirements of Livestock.
•  Providing relief measures to livestock during natural calamities.
•  Building awareness among farmers on profitable Livestock production.
•  Coordinating with health department in controlling diseases of zoonotic importance.
•  Providing technical support to Livestock based poverty elimination programmes in the Government sponsored schemes.

NATIONAL KAMDHENU BREEDING CENTRE (NKBC), CHINTALADEVI :

Govt. of India has sanctioned National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre to the State of Andhra Pradesh for Southern Region with a financial outlay of Rs. 36.12 crore under Rashtriya Gokul Mission for Conservation of Indigenous Breeds especially threatened breeds .
To enhanced productivity of the indigenous bovines through superior germ plasm and Nutrition.
It is headed by Joint Director (AH) under the control of the Director of Animal Husbandry,AP, Vijayawada.
As per the govt norms 25 existing indigenous breeds should be maintained at NKBC, Chintaladevi. As on date total 19 breeds (14 white cattle and 5 Buffalo breeds) out of which 376 white cattle and 168 Buffaloes are maintainted as on date.
It also provides Embryo Transfer Technology to cater the needs of the farmers towards producing of embryos Gir,Sahiwal,Murrah,punganur and Ongole breed.

COMPOSITE LIVESTOCK FARM (CLF),CHINTALADEVI:

A composite livestock farm with Ongole cows and Nellore sheep was started at Chintaladevi in 1986 by the Animal Husbandry Department.
Headed by Deputy Director (AH) under the control of the Director of Animal Husbandry, Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada does possess an extent of 2468.81 acres of land out of which only 300 acres of land it cultivable and the rest of the land is left free as grazing land.
To conserve and develop the Ongole Breed and to build up pure lines of Nellore Jodepi Breed sheep .
345 ongole breed cattle and 931 Nellore Breed sheep are maintained in the farm as on date.

District Livestock Development Association (DLDA ):

Breeding activity through Artificial Insemination is the main objective of District Livestock Development Association to cater the needs of farmers towards producing of high yielding milch animals.
It is headed by one Executive officer (EO) who comes under the control of Chief Executive Officer , Andhra Pradesh Livestock Development Agency (APLDA), Guntur.
It supplies Frozen Semen straws and Liquid Nitrogen to all field institutions upto Rythu Seva Kendram level.
Implementing Accelerated Breed Improvement Programme (ABIP) with sex-sorted semen for production of female calves with 90 % accuracy.

Integrated Sheep Development Project (ISDP ):

It is headed by one Assistant Director (AH) and covers Small Ruminants i.e Sheep and Goat Development activities in the district.
240 Primary Sheep Breeders Cooperative Societies (PSBCs) were registered in the district and are affiliated to District Union
National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) Loans are provided to shepherd belonging to Primary Sheep Breeders Cooperative Societies.

Veterinary Poly Clinic (VPC):

Premier institute and referral hospital located at district Head Quarter and is Headed by Deputy Director (AH). .
operated with two wards i.e large animal ward and Pet animal ward .
It comprises of Medicine, Gynaecology and Surgery Departments to examine all critical , emergency and surgical cases.
Daily on an average 160 out patient cases are treated here which include large animals and pet animals .

ADDL (Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory):

Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory located in District head quarter and is headed by one Assistant Director (AH).
functions as District level referral laboratory catering the disease diagnostic needs of the field institutions and farmers.
Implements National Disease control program (NADCP) to prevent FMD,Brucella,PPR diseases in livestock.
Supervises 7 Constituency level Animal Disease Diagnostic laboratories (CADDLs) which are manned by 1 Lab technician and 1 Lab Attendant for each lab.

SANCHARA PASHU AROGYA SEVA-MOBILE AMBULATORY VETERINARY CLINICS [MAVC] :

It provides veterinary services at door step of the farmer. GVK-EMRI, Vijayawada operates the Mobile Veterinary Clinics in 8 Assembly Constituencies in the district. It is manned by one Veterinary Doctor, one Para vet and one Pilot cum Attendant with required medicines and lab equipment. One Call Center made available with Toll Free Number 1962.

14 MAVCs out of 18 MAVCs are operational in the district and on an Average 5 trips per day are made by each MAVCs in the district

Schemes taken up:

SUPPLY OF FEEDING INPUTS ON SUBSIDY BASIS

FODDER SEED:

Fodder seed varieties Jowar-CSH24 ,Bajra,Maize,Cowpea are made available at all RSKs to distribute to the farmers on 75% subsidy . Each farmer can get upto 30 kgs fodder seed on subsidy.

• 49 MTS of fooder seed are being distributed during 2024-25.

TMR :

•  Total Mixed Ration (TMR) is being supplied to all the farmers on 60% subsidy i.e for Rs 6.50 per kg per Farmer will be supplied upto 1800 kgs for 2 months.
• 481.6 MTs was distributed during 2023-24.

CHAFF CUTTER:

•  30 Chaff cutters were distributed on 40 % subsidy in the district during 2023-24.
•  Total unit cost is Rs 33000/- and Farmer contribution is Rs 20382/- for one chaff cutter.

Schemes to be taken up :

PASU BHIMA PADHAKAM :

• Government vide.GO.Ms.No.03 dated 12.01.2023 have approved for implementation of Pasu Bhima Padhakam to provide livestock insurance to the farmers under National Livestock Mission.

Livestock Insured(2023-24):Till date

131 lakhs Budgets towards subsidy was allotted to the district was fully utilised for insuring livestock in the district during 2023-24

NATIONAL LIVESTOCK MISSION :

National Livestock Mission (NLM) aims towards employment generation, entrepreneurship development, increase in per animal productivity and thus targeting increased production of meat, goat milk, egg and wool under the umbrella scheme Development Programme.

Under this scheme as per the choice of beneficiaries various livestock units like sheep,goat,poultry and piggery units sanctioned with 50% subsidy upto 50 lakhs maximum.

7 Sheep and goat units and 1 Fodder development unit were sanctioned and 25 Lakhs subsidy (50%) was released and the units are under progress in the district.

Construction of Cattle/Sheep/Goat/Poultry shelters (GOKULAM)

• •  To promote the Agri allied activities and also to improve the livelihoods of rural poor, the Government has permitted “Construction of Cattle/Sheep/Goat/Poultry shelter” under MGNREGS in convergence with Animal Husbandry Department.
    Total target was alloted-1300 units .
