a) Profile :
Institution was originally started in the year 1929 as a Ceramic Section of the Industry Department in the composite Madras State reorganized and merged with the School of Arts and Crafts, Madras.
It was separated again in the year of 1942. In the year 1948 the Industries Department started a Ceramic Industry at Gudur by name Government Ceramic Factory. The Ceramic Section was shifted to Gudur and was renamed as Govt. Ceramic Institute, Gudur. At that time it was offering a two years Diploma course.
The Main building of the Institute was constructed in the year 1953. In the year1954, the Institute started offering a Three Years Diploma course to meet the increasing Technical Demands. In the year 1959, the institute merged with the Technical Education Department, Andhra Pradesh.
In the year 1970, this Institute was merged with the Government Polytechnic, Gudur.
Initially the ceramics has two wings. i.e (a) Glass and Enamel (b) Potteries and Refractories.
In the year 1986 separated from GPT Gudur and Established /converted as State wide institute (polytechnic) from the academic year 1986-87 with the intake of students 60 No’s ( Increased from 25 no of seats to 60 No of Seats) and increase the duration from 3 years to 3.5 years(Sandwich)
Admissions in the statewide institution are 36:42:22 ratios (i.e Osmania:Andhra:Sri Venkateswara) as per G.O Ms.No.267 of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh,Education Department, A.P.
This polytechnic was converted as Autonomous Institute in the year 1996 as per the G.O Ms.No.214 of the Education Department, A.P.
