DISTRICT INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS (DIPRO)

a) PROFILE

I & PR Department is considered as the Eyes & Ears of the Government. The main objective of the department is to build the image of the Government through dissemination of Government information to the public through Mass Media. Department’s function is basically two fold – to inform the public about the policies and programmes of the government on one hand and to keep the government informed of the people’s response to its policies and programmes on the other hand.
Communication is the most vital process for socio-economic development. The department operates its multi-media systems for effective publicity of development and welfare programmes and acts as a bridge between the people and the Government and creates awareness among all sections of the people. To see that the publicity messages of the Government are percolated down to the grass root level, so as to bring positive change in the mindset of the people.

c) ACTIVITIES

  • Publicises the activities, schemes, programmes of the government through mass media.
  • Maintains liaison with Print & Electronic Media, AIR, Doordarshan.
  • Conducting Press tours, issuing press notes, advertisements, organizing exhibitions, Song & Drama Programmes, photo services and films,
  • Keeping the Government informed of the public response on policies, welfare and developmental schemes of the Government through feedback reports & success stories etc.
  • Creating awareness among the public on precautions to be taken during natural calamities like floods, heat waves, contagious diseases.
  • Taking care of the welfare of journalists by issuing Accreditation cards, Health cards to journalists & family members, Concessional travel passes, House sites, Comprehensive Insurance policy (Accidental), High power Committees on Prevention of Atrocities and Assaults against journalists, Financial assistance through Journalists welfare fund etc.
