a) DEPARTMENT PROFILE :
Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore District is consisting of 13 Fire Stations and functioning within radius of 140 Km., in Nellore District by covering a jurisdiction of 46 Mandals .
The activities of the department are mainly connected with fire prevention and fire extinction. It is a humanitarian service dedicated to the saving of life and property and available to public at all times.
The Service of this Department is available to the public round the clock. ” We serve to save”. “Service before self” are the main aim of this Department. The basic objective of the Fire Service is protection of life and property of the public.
The Fire Service is rendering the following services to the public :
(i) Rescue the life and property of the people from devastating fire
(ii) Rescue people from natural calamites
(iii) Issue of No Objection Certificate
(iv) To help the affected people to resume their normal life.
(v) Special services – stand by duties
(vi) Inculcate the public on fire prevention and ensure proper fire safety arrangements .i.e Mock Drills, Awareness Campaigns
i).Rescue the life and property of the people from devastating fire :-
The main aim of the Department is to save the life and property of the people from devastating fire.
Control room/Watch room are functioning and manned round the Clock in two shifts in all the Fire Stations to receive information about the outbreak of fire. All fire Stations are provided with telephone facilities. On receipt of fire message by telephone or through messenger , the person receiving the call shall take down the correct particulars such as location of the fire, the time of its outbreak, its nature etc., and turn out the available appliances with the crew and arrange to rush to the spot. The person in-charge of the Control Room/Watch Room will also make necessary arrangements for reinforcement of additional fire units according to the nature of fire units according to the nature of fire and inform the concerned officials for further action. Fireman are kept alert and ready to move at any time within no time on the receipt of information about the outbreak of fire.
ii). Rescue people from natural calamities :-
This Department is rendering selfless services during natural calamities. The Fire Service Personnel evacuate people from low lying areas/flood affected places and house collapse etc., day and night at the time of cyclone and heavy rain.
iii).Issue of No Objection Certificate :-
As per A.P Fire Service Act-1999 & Levy of Fee Rules-2006 any building of more than 15 Mtrs height for commercial business purpose ,18 Mtrs and above height for residential purpose and buildings of public congregation likes Schools, Cinema Halls, Function Halls, Religious Places, Hospitals ,Industries which are more than 500 Sq mts in plot area or 6 mtrs above height shall obtain No Objection Certificate moreover the licensing authorities, and other agencies are consulting Fire Service Department before issue of licence for all the Hazardous premises involving fire risk and issue of license. The Fire Service Department after actual inspection of the premises and suggesting proper fire fighting arrangements to the concerned, issue “No Objection Certificate” to the licensing authorities after ensuring the fire safety.
iv). To help the affected people to restore their normal life :-
The responsibility of the Fire Service do not end with fire fighting. They also help people to restore their normal life as follows :
(1) Recording correct name and address of the victim and recommend them for getting financial aid from Government and other agencies.
(2) Issue Fire Accident Certificate so as enable the people to obtain the following :
(a) Fresh policy from Department to resume power connection.
(b) Duplicate ration cards.
(c) To exchange the half burnt currencies from bank
(d) Duplicate identity cards
(e) Recommend to set loan from bank and other agencies to restore normal life and rebuilt
the burnt house
(f) To get fire insurance claim, etc.
v). Special Duties –Stand by duties :-
This Fire Service is sending vehicles and crew on standby duties as fire safety precautions during public gatherings at the time of Fairs, Carnivals, Exhibition, Circus, PSLV/GSLV launching at SHAR, Elections and VVIP’s visit.
