DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Factories Department functions under the administrative control of the Principal Secretary to Government, Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The main objective Factories Department are
1. To ensure the safety, health and welfare of about 39513 workers employed inabout1024 registered factories.
2. Tosecurethesafety,healthofthepublicliving in the vicinity of factories.

14. Doing Inspections of the registered factories which are listed out in Central Inspection System portal every month (one district per month) in and uploading Inspection Report within 24 hours. Some of the Bapatla, Prakasam,Nellore,Tirupathi registered factories which are randomly allotted for inspection on the dates assigned by the Central Inspection System Portal
15. Doing surprise inspections and inspections based on complaints with specific permissions from the Head of the Department
16. Conducting District Crisis Group meetings with the apex body in the District to deal with major chemical accidents and to provide expert guidance for handling Chemical accidents as per Rule 9 of the Chemical Accidents (Emergency Planning, Preparedness and Response) Rules, 1996
17. Conducting Local Crisis Group meetings in each Revenue Division with the body in the industrial pocket to deal with major chemical accidents and coordinate efforts in planning, preparedness and mitigation of a Chemical Accident as per Rule 10 of the Chemical Accidents (Emergency Planning, Preparedness and Response) Rules, 1996
18. Ensuring the provision of welfare amenities in factories such as Creche, Rest Shed, Lunch Rooms, Canteens, Cool Drinking Water, Occupational Health Centres etc
19. Organizing periodical medicalexamination of workers involved in hazardous processes

FUNCTIONARY
1. The Director of Factories, A.P., Vijayawada is the Head of Department and is entrusted with the overall supervision regarding implementation of the Acts and Rules
2. The Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Nellore is a District officer whose cadre is Gazetted and he has got jurisdiction over the entire Districts of Prakasam and Nellore. The Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories with the assistance of Inspector of Factories,Nellore,Ongole-1 and Ongole-2 looks after the implementation of above Acts and Rules in the factories located in Prakasam and Nellore Districts.Presently these posts are vacant and my self is holding the additional charge.
3. The Inspector of Factories, Nellore is a District officer whose cadre is Gazetted and he has got jurisdiction over the entire Nellore District

This Department entrusted with the implementation of enactments as mentioned above. No schemes or funds have been allotted to this Department for implementation
INDUSTRIAL SCENARIO IN NELLORE DISTRICT
There are totally 1141 factories registered under the Factories Act out of which 1024 factories are working employing 39513 workers including 8779 women workers. Out of these factories depending upon the hazardous process and chemicals used in manufacturing activity and their threshold quantities, certain factories are classified into M.A.H.”A” ,”B1”and“B2” factories. There are 03 M.A.H.”A’’ category factories and “14” M.A.H.”B1” and 18 MAH “B2”category factories in the District.
