INSPECTOR OF FACTORIES

The Factories Department works for

• Safety of public residing in the vicinity of Major Accident Prone/Hazardous Factories.
• Safety of the plant, machinery and material in Factories.

Legislation being implemented:

• The Factories Act, 1948 and Andhra Pradesh Factories Rules
• The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 and Andhra Pradesh Payment of Wages Rules (in respect of Factories)
• The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and Rules (in respect of Factories)
• Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules–1989 (in respect of Factories)
• Chemical Accidents (Emergency Planning, Preparedness and Response) Rules 1996

The Factories Department is basically a regulatory department headed by the Director of Factories, AP, Vijayawada functioning under the administrative control of the Principal Secretary to the Government, Labour, Employment, Training, & Factories Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Regulating the following Acts.

1. The Factories Act, 1948 & Andhra Pradesh Factories Rules
2. The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 and Andhra Pradesh Payment of Wages Rules (in respect of Factories )
3. The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and Rules (in respect of Factories)
4. Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules – 1989 (in respect of Factories)
5. Chemical Accidents (Emergency planning, Preparedness and Response) Rules 1996

Activities

1. Approving the plans of New Factories and Revised Plans of Existing Factories.
2. Issuing of licences running licences to new factories.
3. Conducting On-Site Emergency Mock Drills in MAH factories.
4. Attending for the safety committee meetings in the factories.
5. Inspection of Factories as per Central Inspection System.
6. Accidents investigation and complaint verification in the factories.
