District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMF) is a trust set up as a non-profit body, in those districts like SPSR Nellore that are affected by the mining works. This has been set up to work for the interest and benefit of persons and areas affected by mining related operations. It is funded through the royalty contributions from mining companies. It was mandated through the Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Amended Act (MMDRA) 2015. In this regard, DMF Trust SPSR Nellore was registered 01.04.2016 and is continuing to work for the development needs of people affected by various mining operations.
Further, DMFT Nellore is implementation Pradhan Mantri Khanija Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY). The overall objective of PMKKKY scheme is to implement various developmental and welfare projects / programs in mining affected areas. In this manner, DMFT Nellore would attempt to Minimize adverse impacts of mining on directly and indirectly affected people of the district. Thus, is will work to ensure long-term sustainable livelihood for the affected people in mining areas.
For the Financial Year 2021-22, the focus of the DMF Nellore has been on sectors such as skill development, public health, COVID-19 pandemic, education, improving key physical and water resources infrastructure and women and child development. The focus has been on essential projects which are critical for provision of basic amenities followed by initiatives which directly or indirectly impact public health and livelihood enhancement. The total funds approved for the FY 2021-22 amount to INR 10.63 Crs while DMF Funds expenditure amount to Rs.4.60 Crs.
DMFT Nellore has been pursuing these objectives in letter as well as spirit by working as per the needs of people affected by Mining. A bottom – up approach has been adopted and Panchayati representatives have come forward with the proposal passed by Gram Sabhas in Governing Council Meetings. In coming years, through need analysis and deeper participate planning exercise, DMFT Nellore and the entire district administration will strive to mitigate the impact of mining operations on both directly and indirectly affected mandals of SPSR Nellore district.
