History of the Temple (Sthala Purana):-

Sri Chamundeshwari Ammavaru is 24 km east of Nellore town. In the distance, one kilometer away from the sea towards the east of Gangapatnam village. It is history that Sri Chamundeshwari goddess was consecrated and built a temple by the Shakteyas about 1100 years ago. They said that since this, Brahmetsavams are being offered to Shree Amma. Later in 1515 AD, Chandragiri Raju Chennapparayudu re-dedicated the Mukha Mandapam and Sri Ammavari and Dwarapalakus. Next date. On 08.04.2009 Sri Ammavari was reinstated. the date 28.05.2009 Sri Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamy, the prefect of Sri Kanchikamakoti, conducted the Mahakumbhabhishekam for Sri Amma. Shree Ammavari Devasthanam is the fourth Peetha of Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas in Chamundi Krauncha town (Gangapatnam). This temple has a western corner. It is called a pool (kollugunta). Mental diseases, planetary disorders and ailments are cured by consuming Sri Chamundeshwari Ammavara. Those who are childless come to Sri Amma’s temple and take bath and do 108 rounds for 40 days with devotion and serve Sri Amma and they get children. Therefore, devotees take special vows to Goddess Sri Chamundeshwari. Sri Ammavariki Sarees & Ravika is presenting. Flower services are done with flowers on Fridays and Sundays. Every year, Sri Amma’s marriage ceremony is performed with great splendour on the full moon of Eruvaka. According to the Gangapatnam tradition, from the beginning of Sri Amma’s Brahmotsavam, from the time of tying the kodi to the untying of the kodi, everyone in every house forbids meat. Everyone is looking for the welfare of Sri Amma by following rules of cleanliness.
